The Massachusetts State Student Advisory Council (SSAC) held multiple regional and state-wide meetings during the 2018-2019 school year. Chairwoman Maya Mathews will submit a comprehensive annual report at the June 25, 2019 meeting. At the April 23, 2019 meeting Member Mathews will provide an update on the work of the Global Outreach Workgroup.

The Global Outreach Workgroup of the SSAC was created during the current school year and made significant progress. The workgroup collaborated with Department of Elementary and Secondary Education staff to provide feedback for the Foreign Language Education (FLE) Framework. The workgroup plans to survey SSAC students and provide feedback and edits to the FLE. The workgroup engaged in a social media-based platform targeting students as a means of promoting cultural awareness, appreciation of diversity, and the creation of global citizens.

Member Mathews will be joined by Matt Capone from Westwood High School and Katherine Nessel from Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School, Hadley at the April 23 meeting to present an overview of the activities and accomplishments of the Global Outreach Workgroup and to answer your questions.
