Innovation Schools Enhancement Grant

Purpose:The purpose of this one-time competitive state funded Innovation Schools Enhancement Grant is to provide district and school support for the enhanced implementation of the autonomies and flexibilities identified in approved innovation plans.
Priorities: Priorities for this competitive grant will be given to applicants that:
  1. Operate an approved innovation school or academy in a district designated as Level 3 or 4 based on 2016 accountability data.
  2. Operate an approved innovation school designated as Level 3 or 4 based on 2016 accountability data.
  3. Clearly demonstrate how implementation of the approved innovation plan supports increased student achievement.
  4. Clearly demonstrate how the implementation of the approved innovation plan supports the reduction of achievement gaps between student subgroups and improves teaching and learning.
Eligibility: In order to apply for an Innovation Schools Enhancement Grant, an applicant must have completed one full year of implementation of an approved innovation school or innovation academy.

A district may submit a grant application for multiple innovation schools or academies within the district.

Funding Type:State

Funding: Grant funds will be awarded from the state innovation schools line item. Approximately, $100,000 is available for funding.

Award amounts are anticipated to be up to $15,000 per approved innovation academy and up to $30,000 per approved innovation school.

Funding is contingent upon availability. All dollar amounts listed are estimated/approximate and are subject to change. If more funding is to become available it will be distributed under the same guideline as listed in the initial RFP document.

Fund Use: All grant funds must be used to support continued high quality operation of an innovation school or academy and the continued high quality implementation of its approved innovation plan.

Examples of unallowable expenditures include, but are not limited to: 1) stipends or costs related to direct service provision to students, 2) out-of-state travel expenses, and 3) purchase of food or beverages.

  1. Intent to apply: Applicants may submit non-binding intent to apply emails to sedmond@doe.mass.edu by Monday, March 12, 2018. Please include the innovation school or academy for which the applicant seeks enhancement grant funding and the contact name of the school/district representative.
Submission Instructions: Email all required documents, in their original Word or Excel formats (e.g., not converted to a PDF), to sedmond@doe.mass.edu. Note: Electronic signatures are required on the emailed versions.

Awarded Recipients: Upon award, recipients will be required to enter the approved budget and attach Part I and Part III in EdGrants. Once selected, recipients will be contacted with further instructions on the process.
