Teen Pregnancy Prevention: Partners for Youth Success - Implementation II

Purpose: The Teen Pregnancy Prevention: Partners for Youth Success Grant (also referred to as PREP) will support planning for and implementation of a selected evidence-based teen pregnancy prevention program and adulthood preparation subjects (APS) in middle schools. The PREP Implementation II grant is intended to assist these districts with:
  • Full and complete implementation of the selected curriculum with the added adult preparation lessons in middle schools.
  • Evaluation activities related to program implementation and outcomes.
  • Building sustainability of the program beyond the funding period.
Priorities: The priority of this grant is to support the continued work of districts participating in the PREP grant in implementation and sustainability planning of the program.

In applying for these funds, districts ensure that:
  • The curriculum has been approved for implementation during the 2017-2018 school year.
  • The curriculum will be implemented completely and with fidelity.
  • Workgroups formed within the district during the initial grant will be maintained.
  • All project personnel (including teachers) will attend all designated required trainings sponsored by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (Department) and/or the Department of Public Health (DPH).
  • Districts will fully participate in all evaluation activities.
Eligibility: The following three districts, who were awarded a Fiscal Year 2017 (FY17) PREP planning grant are eligible for continuation funding in FY18 to implement programming:
  • Chelsea
  • Salem
  • Springfield

Funding: Approximately $$135,000 has been allocated for the grant program. Applicants may apply for up to $45,000 to implement and evaluate programming:

Funded applicants that fulfill grant requirements will be eligible for continuation grant funding for up to three additional years (FY19 - FY21), pending funding appropriation.

Note: The Department reserves the right to alter the award to each funded school district. Should additional funds become available as a result of unclaimed or returned grant awards, the Department may redistribute those funds in an equitable manner among other awarded grantees.

Funding is contingent upon availability. All dollar amounts listed are estimated/approximate and are subject to change. If more funding is to become available it will be distributed under the same guideline as listed in the initial RFP document.

Fund Use:Funds can be used to support release time for staff (e.g. substitutes or stipends) to attend workshops and training, meeting costs to plan and implement programs, purchase of science-based curricula and staff training on these curricula. Funds can be used to hire additional personnel in order to fully implement the program but may not be used to supplant current salaries. Funds can support other costs associated with planning for, implementing and/or sustaining the program.

Submission Instructions: Submit all required grant materials through EdGrants.

All items listed under the required forms section of this RFP should be uploaded / attached in the Attachments List formlet of the Application Submission in EdGrants. This includes a signed / scanned PDF of Part I / Coversheet with Superintendent's signature the Schedule A form, if applicable to your district, Part III, Grant Assurances and Teacher Assurances. The final budget the applicant is requesting will be entered directly into EdGrants as part of the application submission process.
