Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2018

Purpose:The purpose of this grant program is to provide access to highly effective adult basic education services to eligible adults who cannot or will not enroll in class based instructional services at a Community Adult Learning Center.
Priorities:The priority is to support programs that:
  1. provide one-on-one adult basic education instruction through the use of well-trained and well-supported volunteer tutors;

  2. for ABE instruction, are prepared to implement a program-wide curriculum aligned with the level-specific standards of the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education; for ESOL instruction are prepared to implement a program-wide curriculum aligned with the standards and benchmarks in the Massachusetts Adult Basic Education Curriculum Framework for ESOL, and also incorporate the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education where applicable and supportive of English Language Learners' next steps for college or careers; and

  3. provide services that are effective in assisting adults to develop the college and career readiness skills needed to successfully transition to higher education and stable jobs that provide a family-sustaining wage.

Eligibility:FY 18 is the final continuation year grant. All recipients awarded in the FY2013 Open and Competitive process are eligible to apply.

Funding is contingent upon availability. All dollar amounts listed are estimated/approximate and are subject to change. If more funding is to become available it will be distributed under the same guideline as listed in the initial RFP document.

Fund Use:Funds may be used for ABE instructional services, delivered by well-trained volunteers. Computer literacy (basic skills and abilities that support the use of computers) may be offered as a supplemental instructional component.

College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education

Submission Instructions: Grantees must use the online grants information system; Paper submissions will no longer be accepted.

Submit all required grant materials through the EdGrants website.

In EdGrants, applicants are required to create and name the project. Please use the following naming convention for your "Applicant Project Name" in EdGrants:

FY18 287 Primary Instruction by Volunteers (Applicant Name)
      (no acronyms, please)

All required forms should be uploaded in the Attachments List formlet of the Application Submission. This includes a signed / scanned PDF of Part I / Coversheet with CEO/Superintendent/Executive Director signature.
