Commissioner's Weekly Update - March 22, 2013

Breakfast Funding Opportunity for Gateway Cities:

The Eos Foundation, a partner in the Massachusetts School Breakfast Challenge, is offering grant funding to Gateway City school districts to participate in its Nourishing Kids Initiative. The initiative seeks to combat childhood hunger by increasing access to healthy food for low-income children through universal breakfast, a program that enables schools to offer breakfast at no charge to all students, regardless of household income. Eos will host a conference call with interested school districts on Monday, March 25 to answer questions about the initiative. Districts interested in this funding opportunity must submit a letter of intent to Eos by April 2. For more info, go to

Reminder about School Choice Vote for 2013-14 School Year:

The vote may also specify which grades and how many openings are available, although that information is not required and is not binding. Districts should summarize the results of the vote by letter or email and send it to Roger Hatch in ESE's School Finance office at ESE publishes districts' participation status online at in order to guide prospective students who are considering applying.
