Abigail Thernstrom of Lexington Named to State Board of Education

Malden - Malden--Abigail M. Thernstrom of Lexington has been appointed for a five-year term on the Massachusetts Board of Education by Governor William F. Weld. Dr. Thernstrom is an adjunct professor at Boston University School of Education, a Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute in New York, and a writer for a variety of journals and newspapers including The New Republic, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post. Dr. Thernstrom received several awards for her 1987 book, Whose Votes Count? Affirmative Action and Minority Voting Rights, including the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award for best book on race and ethnicity. The Board of Education consists of 15 members, who serve as volunteers and oversee the Department of Education.
