CCSSO Releases Competencies for Personalized Teaching

In many classrooms today, teachers are transitioning to a more personalized approach to meet the needs of diverse learners. With such an approach, the standard model of whole-class instruction is replaced - or mixed - with customizable learning experiences that are adapted to address the unique learning needs of each student. To help all teachers be successful in this more personalized, learner-centered environment, the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and Jobs for the Future have developed a set of teacher competencies that any teacher, school, district or state can use during professional learning opportunities or in educator development programs. As more states and districts move to instructional approaches that are responsive to the individual needs of students, it requires educators to develop additional skills and dispositions that will lead to successful outcomes for all students. Educator Competencies for Personalized, Learner-Centered Teaching describes ways educators can best assess and address individual student needs and help all reach rigorous proficiency standards.
