2016 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) Training Opportunities

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) requires Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) sponsors to annually attend State agency training. The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE), Office for Nutrition, Health & Safety Programs will offer twelve training opportunities for Fiscal Year 2016 (FY16) SFSP new and returning sponsoring agencies.   • Topics include how to complete forms required for submission and submit grants eligible for review.
  • Suggested attendees: New and returning sponsors who plan to submit application for grant funds.

Regional Workshop Series

ESE is providing full day workshops in three regional locations. Separate topics will be addressed during the morning and afternoon sessions. Staff may sign up for one or both sessions. ESE consultants will also be available by appointment to provide technical assistance (TA) on any program area throughout the day. A registration form must be completed for all attendees. Each sponsoring organization can send a maximum of two participants.

Administering the Summer Food Service Program Workshop:

  • Topics include procurement, farm to summer, sponsor recordkeeping requirements and preparing for a state agency review.
  • Suggested attendees: Key administrative and procurement staff, and staff who implement training.
  • Registration form

Operating a Successful Summer Feeding Site Workshop:

  • Topics include site recordkeeping requirements, point of service meal counts, meal pattern and strategies to increase participation.
  • Suggested attendees: Site supervisors, monitors and staff who develop and implement training.
  • Registration form

One on One Sponsor Support Hour:

  • ESE consultants will be available for 1 hour appointments to answer any questions you have about how to implement the SFSP.
  • Suggested attendees: Any staff with specific questions related to duties or operational plan in SFSP.
