CASEL Collaborating States Initiative: Notice of Intent to Respond

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is pleased to announce our intent to respond to a Request for Proposals (RFP) from the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL). The purpose of the project is "to support states as they design, adopt and implement clearly defined, research-based policies, guidelines, and standards to support statewide implementation of SEL." One of the aims of CASEL's Collaborating States Initiative (CSI) is to establish a community of practice of collaborating states to support deeper learning and educational practice related to social and emotional learning (SEL). Massachusetts welcomes this opportunity to learn with, and from, other states as we seek to develop policies and guidance to best support Massachusetts' students. In the proposal, the Department will make a commitment to:
  • Engage with our stakeholders, especially our teachers, administrators, and specialized instructional support personnel (SISP);
  • Integrate SEL principles with existing policies Download PDF Document  Download MS WORD Document and resources (e.g., Curriculum Frameworks, standards, and guidance);
  • Build useful, well-aligned resources.
The first stage of the Department's proposal will focus on conducting a systematic stakeholder engagement process to learn from, and with, our districts to refine the proposed work. To provide comment regarding the application, please email achievement@doe.mass.edu by Friday, 5/20 with "CASEL-CSI" in the subject line.
