Webinar: Transparency and student privacy: Best practices

Join the National Association of State Boards of Education for a webinar on June 29, 2016, from 3:00 to 4:00 pm (EST) to discuss why data transparency is so important, what new state laws and policies are requiring around transparency, and learn from examples of leading states. Presenters include Sterling Beane and Georgia Hughes-Webb from the West Virginia Department of Education and Sean Cottrell and Kathy Boguszewski from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, as well as Amelia Vance, NASBE's Director of Education Data and Technology.

Evaluating privacy in ed tech: New resource by Common Sense Media

The nonprofit Common Sense Media's education initiative this week launched a platform to evaluate the privacy and security of education technology software that's being used in schools across the country. The platform was developed with help from more than 70 schools and districts nationwide. It looks at a vendor's privacy policy, lists strengths and weaknesses of a particular software application, and shares experiences from schools and districts.
