Registration now open for the Family Engagement: Building Conditions for Success: Collaborating for Successful Family, School and Community Partnerships networking meeting on Monday, September 26, 2016.

Building Conditions for Success: Patricia Spradley, Chief of Parent and Community Engagement, at Springfield Public Schools will share her insight, experience, challenges and successes in helping families, teachers and schools communicate successfully and develop partnerships. During the breakout sessions, participants will be given an opportunity to network with colleagues and discuss strategies to "Build Conditions for Success". "Discussion leaders" will set the tone for collaborative dialogues led by teachers, parents, and school leaders.

  • Breakout sessions:
    • Members of each group will have the opportunity to discuss the topic, brainstorm ideas, and share practices
      • Can we get Along? How do we create positive and effective IEP Teams?
      • Cultural Brokering: A tool to engage families of diverse cultures
      • One Size Does Not Fit All. How do families and schools move from Family Involvement to Family Engagement in education?
      • Helping Children Develop Social Emotional Skills. How do families and school partner to support children's' social emotional development?
      • Parent Camps: What is a parent camp and how do you facilitate one?
      • SEPAC Café: How can Special Education Parent Advisory Councils support all families
      • Community Partners: How do families and schools partner with community organizations and services to support children's education?
  • Lunch/Break: *Lunch available for purchase through venue concession
  • Start where you are: assessing where your school/district is in the process of engaging families
  • The "Fundamentals": What are the Family, School, and Community Partnership Fundamentals and how to use them? The Family, School, and Community Partnership Fundamentals, modeled after the National PTA Standards for Family-School Partnerships, reflect the responsibilities, opportunities, and expectations of families, schools, school districts, and communities in partnering together to support student performance and academic achievement.

About the Networking Meetings:

To support district activities under the 274 Grant program, the Department will host an informational and networking meeting for interested individuals. Audience: Special Education Administrators, Special Education Teachers, Teachers, Family Engagement Coordinators, Building Administrators, Guidance/Adjustment Counselors, and Parent Leaders. ESE encourages the registration of up to 5 team members. The composition of the team is at the district's discretion but districts are strongly encouraged to include a parent leader on their team if possible. You are encouraged to register early as space is limited. Registration
