National School Lunch Program (NSLP) Administrative Review (AR) Process Training for Schools Scheduled for an Administrative Review in SY 2017-2018

To:School Nutrition Program Directors
From:Robert Leshin, Director
Office for Food and Nutrition Programs
Date:September 15, 2017

The Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act, as amended by the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 (HHFKA), requires a unified accountability system designed to ensure that participating school food authorities (SFAs) comply with National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP) requirements. The Act also requires an accountability system that conducts Administrative Reviews to evaluate Program requirements for NSLP and SBP during a three-year cycle. The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Office for Food and Nutrition Programs has currently scheduled three in person trainings and one distance learning track to review the Administrative Review Process for districts that are scheduled for a review during the 2017-2018 school year. The purpose of this training is to address the program requirements of the Administrative Review process. Please refer to the attached list below to see if your Local Educational Agency (LEA) is scheduled for a NSLP review during this school year. Attendance by the School Nutrition Director and Business Manager is strongly recommended as this training will include procurement in addition to the Resource Management Comprehensive Review requirements. In Person training scheduled from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Registration will begin at 8:30 am.
