We are writing with a reminder about an important notice about the future eligibility for the History (06) MTEL-Flex assessment. Please see below for more details.
Currently, the MTEL-Flex is offered in the areas listed below. Candidates may opt to take the MTEL-Flex if they scored within one standard error of measurement (SEM) of passing on the corresponding MTEL exam since the regulatory pilot allowing for alternative assessments was approved on October 20, 2020.
As you are aware, the revised History/Social Science (73) MTEL, was released February 6, 2023. The MTEL History (06) test is retired and is no longer operational.
As a result, we will also be updating the History MTEL-Flex option to align with the updated History/Social Science (73) test.
The final submission date for the History (06) MTEL-Flex is May 25, 2023. We anticipate opening registration for the History/Social Science (73) MTEL-Flex in summer after the first score reports are released for the History/Social Science (73) test.
Only one version of each MTEL is operational at a given time. At this time, we highly encourage candidates who are currently eligible for the History (06) MTEL-Flex to submit their MTEL-Flex assessments before the final submission date of May 25, 2023.
After the score reports are released for the revised History/Social Science (73) MTEL, candidate eligibility will be based on scores for the History/Social Science (73) MTEL. Candidates will no longer be eligible for the MTEL-Flex based on their score on the History (06) MTEL. Candidates will need to score within one standard error of measurement on the revised History/Social Science (73) in order to be eligible for the MTEL-Flex for History/Social Science (73).
Information will be posted on the MTEL website regarding registration for the updated MTEL-Flex History/Social Science (73) assessment.
