Massachusetts Governor's Committee on Physical Fitness & Sports Grant Opportunity-Deadline March 10, 2006

The Massachusetts Governor’s Committee on Physical Fitness & Sports Launches the Every Body Move Grant Program

In partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Education, the Massachusetts Governor's Committee on Physical Fitness & Sports (MGCPFS) has created the Every Body Move grant program which will provide Massachusetts Public Schools* funding to create, enhance or sustain opportunities for physical activity for children between the ages of 8-14. Eligible programs may include before, during or after school physical activity programs, traditional/non-traditional sports, competitive/non-competitive sports and physical education programming. The grants are designed to support initiatives that increase children's regular involvement in enjoyable physical activities, increase activity levels among sedentary students and develop students' knowledge of and positive attitudes toward daily and lifelong physical activity and its benefits. Further information on Every Body Move grants including guidelines and applications will be available at www.everybodymove.org/grant/ mid-January. Funding is currently available for the 2006-2007 academic year. Applications are due by 5pm on March 10, 2006. The MGCPFS created the Every Body Move campaign in May 2005 as an ongoing initiative to get Massachusetts residents "moving". It was designed to generate awareness regarding the importance of participating in daily and lifelong physical activity. Every Body Move was designed to motivate and inspire citizens of the Commonwealth to live a healthier lifestyle by highlighting everyday activities that can enhance their overall health and well-being. For more information on the MGCPFS please visit www.masportsandfitness.org. * Massachusetts Private Schools enrolling students with disabilities and special needs are also eligible to apply.
