Annual Report Guidelines for the 2005-2006 School Year

Dear Charter Leaders and Board of Trustees Chairs:

Each August, charter schools must submit an Annual Report to various constituencies, including the Department of Education. The Annual Report summarizes the progress made by the school during the preceding school year. In accordance with the charter school statute, Annual Reports are due to the Charter School Office of the Department of Education on or before Tuesday, August 1, 2006. As this is a statutory deadline, extensions cannot be given. Please be sure to plan well so that your report is in our office on or before the deadline.

Enclosed are the Annual Report Guidelines Download PDF Document  Download MS WORD Document for the 2005-2006 school year. These guidelines are also available on the Charter School Office web site (www.doe.mass.edu/charter/acct.html) if additional copies are needed. As is the case each year, the main content of the Annual Report is the school's report on its progress in meeting Accountability Plan goals. A checklist is also included in the Guidelines to aid schools in ensuring that each additional required element is included.

The Annual Report is an important component of charter school accountability, documenting the school's progress in meeting the goals articulated in its Accountability Plan, providing evidence in each of the areas guiding charter school accountability, and providing valuable information for charter renewal. Please read the Guidelines carefully to ensure that your school is including all the required information. The format of the report may be unique to the individual school as long as all of the content is covered and easily found.

Please submit two (2) paper copies and one (1) Microsoft Word electronic copy of the Annual Report to the Charter School Office. We are exploring the possibility of accepting electronic versions of Annual Reports through a web-drop function on the Department's Security Portal. You will receive information on how to submit electronic versions of the Annual Report before the submission deadline. Electronic versions must conform to the Commonwealth's criteria for accessible documents, described on page 2 of the Guidelines. Electronic versions of each school's Annual Report will be posted to the Department of Education's web site.
