History and Social Science Scope and Sequence Survey- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

History and Social Science Scope and Sequence Survey

To:Superintendents of Schools, Principals, and Directors of Charter Schools, Educational Collaboratives, Approved Special Education Private Schools, and Institutional Schools
From:David P. Driscoll, Commissioner of Education
Date:February 5, 2007

The Department of Education is conducting a survey to ascertain current and future preK-12 History and Social Science scope and sequence plans in selected grades in the Commonwealth's public school districts. Specifically, the Department is interested in determining which school districts currently follow or plan to follow a scope and sequence that teaches students content that is assessed on the History and Social Science MCAS at grades 5, 7, and 10 or 11. There are 3 questions in this survey and a section for contact information.

I ask that the member of your staff responsible for History and Social Science education in your district complete this survey by February 23, 2007. The survey is available online at the following link: http://www.zoomerang.com/survey.zgi?p=WEB2263GG4S43B.

Please ensure that your district completes one survey only and that for verification purposes, all contact information for the individual authorized to take the survey on behalf of your district is also completed. I will provide results of this survey to you in March.
