New Office of Strategic Planning, Research, and Evaluation

The mission of the Office of Strategic Planning, Research, and Evaluation (OSPRE) is to provide the information the Department of Education needs to make decisions on the basis of research, data, and evidence. Our vision is that as a result of OSPRE's work, the Department will integrate research and evidence into its policymaking and strategic planning, track its progress towards achieving its vision and goals, and identify when it needs to change course to achieve those goals. Some of our activities include: Working with Department managers and staff to develop a strategic plan for achieving the agency's vision and goals and to measure progress towards those goals Developing and implementing a Department-wide research and evaluation agenda linked to the strategic plan Writing reports, briefs, and memos using research and data to analyze key policy issues for the agency Communicating results from our analyses to internal and external stakeholders Building the Department's capacity to use information from research and evaluation for policy and program development Analyzing district Special Education identification and placements by race and ethnicity and developing technical assistance for districts on this issue Working with external researchers and evaluators interested in using Department data Join our listserv!
