Update on the Massachusetts Vocational Technical Education Frameworks

Forty-three Massachusetts Vocational Technical Education Frameworks were launched in September 2006. The Frameworks are posted at http://www.doe.mass.edu/cte/frameworks. Shortly, a draft Vocational Technical Education Framework in Criminal Justice will be posted for review and comment. A Vocational Technical Education Framework in Construction Technology for programs in skilled construction laboring will be developed during 2008-2009 in cooperation with the Laborer's International Union of North America. The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is currently developing a "Guide to the Massachusetts Vocational Technical Education Frameworks," which will include, but not be limited to the history of the Frameworks, schedule for updating/revalidation, as well as a description of how the Frameworks are best used. The Department is always interested in receiving comments pertaining to the Frameworks from educators, business/industry, and others. The comments will be helpful when the Frameworks are revisited for updating/revalidation. Submit comments at anytime to new Career/Vocational Techical Education unit staff member Maura Russell at mrussell@doe.mass.edu. Ms. Russell may also be reached at (781) 338-3952. In addition, we are seeking links to up-to-date online resources that educators may use for implementing the Frameworks. Resources for vocational technical education programs quickly become outdated in our rapidly changing technological world and it is important for teaching and curricula to be current. Please submit recommendations for links to Maura Russell at the email address noted above. We will post the resource links at http://www.doe.mass.edu/cte/resources by program.
