Under the most recently passed federal Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act of 2007, Head Start programs are required to develop a Memorandum of Understanding with each school district in their service delivery area. The purposes of the Memorandum are to strengthen collaborative relationships between Head Start and public schools related to early childhood programs and services and to ensure a smooth transition for children and families into Kindergarten. If you have a Head Start program in your community, you will be contacted by its director to discuss the elements of the Memorandum of Understanding. We ask that you work with your local Head Start program to ensure that this Memorandum of Understanding is in place by June 30, 2009.Attached is a brochure that lists the Head Start lead agencies across the Commonwealth and the communities that are served by each of these agencies. We believe that the children and families in your community will be well served with such strong collaborative agreements in place between local early childhood programs and their public school districts. We thank you for your cooperation and participation in this process. | Memorandum of Understanding | | Head Start Brochure |
