Special Education – Removal of New Data Requirement Field

February 26, 2009

Dear Program Directors,

As a result of feedback received at a meeting with the Directors' Council, Adult and Community Learning Services (ACLS) has removed the "mandatory" status from the intake form question asking students if they have received special education support. There is general agreement that this is important data to collect, however, the Directors' Council has asked that ACLS provide more specific guidance related to the definitions and parameters surrounding this question to ensure that the data collection is uniform across all programs.

For now, SMARTT has been adjusted so that responding to the "Received Special Education Support" question on the intake form is no longer required and students can be enrolled without providing this information.

I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and I thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,
With Literacy in Mind.

Anne Serino
