Targeted Grants for Mathematics Professional Development

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will provide targeted grants to districts that are participating in the Massachusetts Intel Math Initiative (MIMI) during the summer of 2009 and the 2009-2010 school year.

These districts have been part of the MIMI pilot during SY08-09 and were selected on the basis of the strength of their letters of interest, their commitment, and their high priority due to accountability status. Districts will receive funding for the course instructors, stipends for participant teachers, and training for Mathematics Learning Community facilitators.

MIMI provides K-8 teachers with an 80-hour course in foundational mathematics and participation in a mathematical learning community. For more information, see http://www.doe.mass.edu/omste/news07/mimi.html.

Questions can be directed to Life LeGeros, Director of Statewide Mathematics Initiatives, at 781-338-3537 or llegeros@doe.mass.edu.
