Notice of Public Comment for Proposed Amendments to 603 CMR 1.00, Charter Schools Regulations

Pursuant to its authority under M.G.L. c. 69, § 1B, and c. 71, § 89, and in accordance with the Administrative Procedure Act, M.G.L. c. 30A, § 3, the Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education is soliciting public comment on the proposed amendments to 603 CMR 1.00, Charter Schools Regulations.

The proposed amendments will: clarify the charter school application process and the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education's process for deliberating on charter school decisions; improve the accountability system for charter schools; and make other technical amendments.

A copy of the proposed amendments is available on the Department's web site at www.doe.mass.edu/lawsregs/ or by calling 781-338-3227. Written comments on the proposed amendments may be submitted to: Mary Street, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education: by mail to 75 Pleasant Street, Malden, MA 02148; by fax to 781-338-3220; or by e-mail to charterschools@doe.mass.edu. The deadline for submission of public comment is Friday, November 6, 2009. The Board is expected to vote on the proposed amendments at its regular monthly meeting scheduled for December 15, 2009.
