FY 2010 Continuous Improvement Plans

Dear Community Adult Learning Center Director,

Just a friendly reminder that FY 2010 Continuous Improvement Plans (CIPs) for Community Adult Learning Centers (Fund Codes 340, 345, and 359) are due to your Program Specialist on Thursday, October 15, 2009.

For your reference, the requirements for continuous improvement planning and CIPs are on pages 27 through 29 in the FY 2010 ABE Guidelines, disseminated at the Directors' Meeting. Please be aware that the FY 2010 revision of the Guidelines has not yet been posted to the ACLS website, but copies were included on the CDs distributed at the Directors' Meeting.

The format for the Continuous Improvement Plan may be either of the two formats labeled "action plan" in the SABES publication entitled Planning for Program Improvement: A Manual for ABE Programs, available at: http://www.sabes.org/resources/planningmanualsept2006.pdf.

As you know, any program that has not met one or more of the performance standards must address how it plans to improve its performance relative to those standards in the CIP; a program that has not met three or more of the performance standards should contact its Program Specialist before developing the CIP to negotiate which performance standards will be addressed in the development of the Plan. A program that has met all of the performance standards is required to submit a Continuous Improvement Plan, but may address the areas of improvement that it has identified through its planning and evaluation process.
