Announcing Regional Meetings to Discuss Equity in Career/Vocational Technical Education

The Office for Career/Vocational Technical Education's Equity Team will be conducting four regional meetings to discuss the possible creation of regional networking groups focusing on equity in career/vocational technical education. In response to districts' and individuals' desire to share strategies and effective practices, these meetings will be an opportunity for networking and discussing the potential formation of regional networking groups. The meetings will be held at four different locations across the state to accommodate participants. The dates and locations are: Tuesday, February 9th, Minuteman Regional High School http//www.minuteman.org (Snow Date: Wednesday, February 10th) Thursday, February 11th, Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School http://www.montytech.net (Snow Date: Friday, February 12th) Wednesday, February 24th, Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School http://www.dimanregional.org (Snow Date: Tuesday, March 2nd) Thursday, February 25th, Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School http://smith.tec.ma.us (Snow Date: Friday, February 26th) Sign-in for all meetings will begin at 8:30 a.m. All meetings will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Districts are encouraged to send one or two adult representatives and may also send two students to this initial planning meeting. The adult representatives and students could include those individuals involved with fostering positive school culture, diversity, equity, nontraditional participation, and/or gay straight alliance activities. While equity activities have often focused on students in programs nontraditional for their gender, equal access is a broader issue, with the goal of fostering a supportive school climate and culture that is welcoming of all, including students for whom English is not their first language, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students, students of various races and cultures, etc. For additional information regarding the Equity Team's state-wide initiative and for information regarding the team members, please visit the website at: http://www.doe.mass.edu/news/news.aspx?id=5005 Additionally, please feel free to contact any of the Equity Team Members listed below with specific questions: Marnie Jain: mjain@doe.mass.edu or 781-338-3908 Jeff Perrotti: jmperrotti@aol.com or 617-547-8046 Maura Russell: mrussell@doe.mass.edu or 781-338-3952 Lisa Sandler: lsandler@doe.mass.edu or 781-338-3956 To reserve seats at a Regional Meeting, please register online at http://www.doe.mass.edu/conference/?ConferenceID=801 We look forward to seeing you at a Regional Meeting.
