Western, MA Technical Assistance Session January 28, 2010

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (Department) will host a technical assistance session at Holyoke Community College Kittredge Center for anyone interested in applying for a Massachusetts 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) High School Innovation Grant (Part IVB of the NCLB) on Thursday, January 28, 2010. Participants can begin arriving at 9:30 a.m. and the session will run from 10:00 am-12:30 pm. The session will provide information to help guide attendees through the application process for fiscal year 2011 (school year 2010-2011). Letters of intent and a concept paper are likely to be due in early March 2010. The purpose of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program High School Innovation Grant is to develop creative and innovative extended learning opportunities for high school students that will help to address high school, college, and workforce readiness and success. 21st CCLC programs provide participating students with the opportunity to deepen their learning and gain a greater understanding of content areas by embedding academics into rich and engaging activities. The Department is required to give priority to applications for programs that will serve a high percentage of students from low-income families. Applications must be submitted jointly by a school district and community-based organization or other public or private entity. All programming must occur outside of the traditional school day hours. This grant is for the creation of new sites only. Currently funded 21st CCLC High School programs are not eligible to apply. If you plan to attend, please register online by January 25th via: http://www.doe.mass.edu/conference/?ConferenceID=797.
