Supplementary Support/Title III Grants for Summer Programs at Level 4 Schools in ExEL districts/Fund Code 184

The Office of English Language Acquisition and Academic Achievement of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE) makes available applications for supplementary Title III grants for the following specific purpose:
To create supplemental summer programs and activities for ELL students in district Level 4 schools. Funds may also be used for family literacy services and parent outreach and training activities to limited English proficient children and their families to improve the English language skills of limited English proficient children and to assist parents in helping their children to improve their academic achievement and becoming active participants in the education of their children.
Eligible applicants are districts that have participated in the ExEL administrator's training, specifically, Springfield Public Schools and Worcester Public Schools. These districts will be eligible to apply for the following amounts:
  • Springfield Public Schools      $75,000
  • Worcester Public Schools       $15,000
The Department will provide eligible applicants with necessary Fund Code 184 grant materials via email. Districts must submit a proposed budget workbook as well as a short narrative describing the intended use of the funds. Funds must be spent between July 1, 2010 and September 30, 2010. Program proposals must follow all Title III requirements, and hard copies of these proposals, including the budget workbook (signed by appropriate district staff) and program narrative, must be received by Michelle Griffin in the Office of English Language Acquisition and Academic Achievement at ESE by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9, 2010. Electronic copies of these materials must also be returned to mgriffin@doe.mass.edu no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9, 2010.
