Professional Development Update March, 2011

Upcoming workshop on College, Career and Lifeskills Readiness for ESOL Learners ACLS is pleased to announce the pilot of a workshop called Using the College, Career and Lifeskills Readiness Guide for ESOL Learners, scheduled for Friday, April 8, 2011 from 1:00-4:00 PM at the SABES West Regional Support Center. The workshop is the result of a successful application that ACLS and SABES submitted to receive technical assistance from the Center for Adult English Language Acquisition (CAELA) Network, through funding from the U. S. Department of Education. In this project, consultants from the Center for Applied Linguistics collaborated with a Massachusetts team to meet these and other goals:
  • Identify the critical skills, basic areas of knowledge, and affective abilities that ESOL learners need to transition successfully to next steps; and
  • Identify what teachers need to know and be able to do to prepare ESOL learners effectively to make transitions.
Team members sought perspectives of practitioners from a variety of organizations statewide to inform development of the workshop. For more information and registration for the training, see http://calendar.sabes.org/west/sabesevent.2011-03-09.7115479317. Questions?
