Save the Date Adult Career Pathways Training

February 28, 2013 Dear Program Directors, ABE Teachers/All Staff, and SABES Staff, Save the Date for an Upcoming Adult Career Pathways Training! The Adult Career Pathways Training and Support Center (ACP-SC) is a federally funded resource that supports adult education providers in designing, implementing, and improving Adult Career Pathways programs. In addition to providing practitioners with a comprehensive website including robust career pathways resources, the ACP-SC team delivers high-quality professional development trainings across the country on Designing Instruction for Career Pathways. Join us on May 6, 2013 or May 7, 2013 for training in Devens, Massachusetts, Devens Common Inn. Designing Instruction for Career Pathways Training Description
Supported by the U.S. Departments of Education, Health and Human Services, and Labor, the field of adult education is moving toward the Adult Career Pathways model to enable lower-skilled adults to progress on a career pathway and prepare for postsecondary success at a more rapid pace. What does this model look like in practice within the classroom? The Designing Instruction for Career Pathways training will guide participants through the principles of contextual teaching and learning and how to develop contextualized lesson plans and curriculum that fit along a career pathway. This one day training for instructors teaches participants how to use the instructional resources in the Adult Career Pathways Training and Support Center (ACP-SC) to develop a contextualized curriculum for a program within a career pathway. Training participants will walk away with (1) a deep familiarity of the rich content of the resources available in the ACP-SC and (2) tools for developing their own lessons for ABE/ESL learners with career-specific content. Following the in-person training, participants will have the opportunity to continue their learning and sharing in the ACP-SC online community. The Designing Instruction for Career Pathways training is produced by Kratos Learning, in partnership with the Center for Occupational Research and Development, with funding from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Vocational and Adult Education. For more information, visit the ACP-SC at www.acp-sc.org. Additional information concerning logistics and training content will follow. We hope to see you there! With Literacy in Mind.
