"All children in Massachusetts, especially students who need the most, must have access to effective teachers and leaders."
—Ed Prep moral imperative

We work with over 75 educator preparation organizations in Massachusetts toward our common goal of preparing every teacher to make a positive impact on students on his or her first day in the classroom. Every year, approximately 63,000 students in the Commonwealth are taught by first-year teachers who are graduates of our educator preparation programs; we have a unique opportunity to greatly improve the academic experience for those students. Right now in Massachusetts, first-year teachers are:

  • Disproportionately hired by underperforming schools,

  • Disproportionately placed in classrooms with our neediest students,

  • Not as well equipped as experienced teachers to help students grow academically, and

  • Able grow the most early in their careers.

By improving the depth and quality of preparation for our new teachers, we narrow the "experience gap," improve retention rates for school districts, and improve student outcomes particularly for our most vulnerable and underserved populations. We directly address the quality of preparation in the Commonwealth with our rigorous Formal Review process and the Candidate Assessment of Performance (CAP). We also have a number of exciting project collaborations with the field through our EPIC Grant that runs through the summer of 2018. In an effort to improve the quality of work that we provide the Commonwealth, we conduct an annual Field Feedback Survey Download PDF Document  Download MS WORD Document and publish the results.
