Deeper Learning Protocols

The Deeper Learning Protocols are a set of tools that teams of educators can use to support their work towards Deeper Learning. Each protocol includes instructions for use, tips and recommendations to deepen conversation, and accompanying resources.

Deeper Learning Adjustment Protocol

The Deeper Learning Adjustment Protocol is a protocol designed to guide teams of educators in strengthening existing curricular materials at the unit level. In this protocol, educators focus attention on components of the unit that can be adapted to enhance the student learning experience and increase opportunities for students to demonstrate mastery, identity, and creativity.

In making these adjustments, educators can cultivate Deeper Learning by engaging students with grade-level work that is relevant, real-world, and interactive.

Deeper Learning Facilitation Protocol

The Deeper Learning Facilitation Protocol is designed to prepare educators to facilitate a key lesson in the unit. In this protocol, educators prepare for lesson-level Deeper Learning by anticipating student responses and by identifying the instructional strategies that will drive learning for all students.

By taking time to intentionally prepare for the lesson, educators can cultivate Deeper Learning by knowing how they will support all students to do the "heavy lifting" through strategic scaffolds and instruction.

Deeper Learning Student Work Review Protocol

The Deeper Learning Student Work Review Protocol is designed to guide teams of educators in reflecting on artifacts of student work, which might take the form of formative, summative, formal, or informal assessments. In this protocol, educators analyze what students do, create, respond to, or revise in order to determine to what degree all students have achieved the Deeper Learning Student Outcomes of Mastery, Identity, and Creativity.

In analyzing student artifacts, educators can cultivate Deeper Learning by reflecting on areas of strength and areas of growth in their instructional materials and pedagogical practice.
