MAPT Administration Training Policy Change — Effective August 12, 2016

ACLS assessment policy requires ABE programs to use MAPT for Reading or MAPT for Math for all learners GLE 2-10.9 enrolled in ABE classes (for exceptions to the policy, please see page 4 of the MAPT Assessment Policy Manual Download PDF Document  Download MS WORD Document on the ACLS Assessment page). To ensure timely test administration, ACLS assessment policy also requires ABE programs to have a minimum of two staff certified to administer the MAPT. However, staff wishing to certify in administering the MAPT can no longer be trained by other MAPT certified practitioners and the training is no longer available as a face-to-face training through SABES. The MAPT administration training is now available as an online training only and can be accessed at MAPT Test Administrator Training (also posted on the SABES Assessment website). Program staff who were previously trained through SABES or through a practitioner-led training do not have to complete the online MAPT administration training but are strongly encouraged to take the new online training as a refresher. Program staff who have never received the MAPT training and who want to administer the MAPT must complete the online MAPT administration training. The training is designed to be completed within 1.5 h. ACLS recommends that practitioners complete it in one sitting. No annual recertification is required. While the training delivery mode has changed, the content of the training has for the most part remained the same. The online MAPT administration training consists of eight modules with five questions for practitioners to answer at the end of each module. The training is not timed and practitioners are given the opportunity to answer the questions multiple times until a correct answer is provided. Practitioners will not be able to move on to the next module until all the answers in the current module have been answered correctly. Once all eight modules have been completed, practitioners will receive an email confirmation that they have completed the training. Practitioners are encouraged to keep that email for their records and forward to their program director as needed. SABES and ACLS will receive notification of completion of the training automatically as well, so practitioners do not need to contact either SABES or ESE/ACLS. ACLS is in the process of updating the MAPT assessment policy manual to reflect this change. **Please also note that SABES will no longer provide paper copies of the MAPT Teacher and Test Administrator Manual. An electronic link to this manual is included in the online training and practitioners are strongly encouraged to save and/or print their own copy. The manual can also be accessed on the ACLS Assessment page.
