The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education - Career/Vocational Technical Education unit is pleased to provide the following information on professional development and technical assistance directly related to career/vocational technical education. Eastern Seaboard Apprenticeship Conference - This conference hosted by the Massachusetts Department of Workforce Development Division of Apprentice Training (DAT) will be held May 25 - 29, 2009 in Boston. Educators, especially those involved with career/vocational technical education on the secondary and postsecondary level are encouraged to attend. Using Technology for Career Planning - The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the National Center for School Counseling Outcome Research will provide a statewide conference on the use of technology to support effective and meaningful career planning on March 26, 2009. Technical Assistance on School Climate - A contractor will provide technical assistance to school districts and public two-year colleges that are assisted with Perkins Act funds on creating a positive school/college climate regarding gender, sexual orientation, race, color, national origin, and disability status. A major goal is for students including those interested in a career that would be nontraditional for their gender to be safe and supported. Additional information is posted at

Technical Assistance on Chapter 74 and the Perkins Act - Each school district/public two-year college/consortium with career/vocational technical education programs has a staff person known as a liaison in the Career/Vocational Technical Education unit. School district/public two-year college/consortium staff should contact their liaison for assistance in implementing Chapter 74 and the Perkins Act.
