Comprehensive System of Personnel Development (CSPD) Training Project

Need for Training:

These training activities are meant to supplement ongoing personnel preparation activities provided within school districts and other agencies. These endeavors should also be considered supportive of district level Professional Development Plans and Activities.

Training Activities:

Training Modules: The Special Education Planning and Policy Development Office (SEPP) is providing training units to assist school districts and other agencies in providing high quality professional development on special education related topics. The units will consist of annotated PowerPoint Presentations and, in some cases, supplemental handouts.

Currently Available Modules:

  • Module One: Massachusetts IEP Process

  • Module Two: A Principal's Role and Special Education in Massachusetts

  • Module Three: Transition From Adolescence Into Adulthood in Massachusetts

  • Module Four: The Transition Planning Process

  • Module Five: Specific Learning Disabilities: Eligibility Determination under IDEA 2004

As additional modules become available they will be added to the list.

CSPD Trainers:

Additionally, SEPP has contracted with a limited number of trainers who receive ongoing training on the CSPD Training Modules. CSPD Trainers will be made available as much as possible to groups of 50+ individuals in public schools, collaboratives and approved special education schools. Requests for training for groups larger than 50 people serving multiple districts and/or agencies will be given priority.

Districts and/or agencies requesting training will be responsible for certain logistical support such as copying of required materials; however, the CSPD Trainer, when scheduled through SEPP, will be provided at no cost to the district.

The Special Education Director or agency equivalent must submit a training request using the Request for Comprehensive System of Personnel Development (CSPD) Training Form . All proposals will be reviewed before being assigned to a trainer. If a trainer is unavailable on the date requested, alternative dates may be identified.

An agency representative must be assigned to fulfill the following activities in relation to the requested training:

  1. serve as agency contact person with Special Education Planning and Policy staff and the assigned CSPD trainer;

  2. coordinate all on-site logistics including the copying of needed materials;

  3. on the day of the training, introduce the activity and the CSPD trainer;

  4. remain throughout the training to oversee and resolve any logistical concerns that arise during the training session;

  5. complete the Contact Person Evaluation Sheet immediately at the conclusion of the training session and give the evaluation sheet to the presenter before that individual leaves the training site;

  6. have each participant complete the Participant Evaluation Sheet immediately at the conclusion of the training session and give the evaluation sheets to the presenter before that individual leaves the training site.

Please Note: Submission of a proposal is not a guarantee of training.
