Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL)

Extended time for MTEL candidates for whom English is not their primary language

Beginning August 25th, 2020, MTEL candidates for whom English is not their primary language will be able to request additional time on most MTEL assessments.

Under this new policy, individuals for whom English is not a primary language may request an extension of testing time, up to one-and-a-half times the standard test session length. This accommodation does not apply to any MTEL language tests. Candidates may provide a range of documentation to apply for this alternative testing arrangement. Documentation may include a letter from your high school; a letter from your institution of higher education; a copy of your birth certificate; Permanent Resident Cards; Employment Authorization Documents; passports; or visas. More details on the policy and required documentation can be found on the MTEL website here. For questions regarding alternative testing arrangements, please call MTEL Customer Service at 866.565.4894 or 413.256.2892.
