Brief Description of Services
BioBuilder’s workshops train classroom teachers with a unique problem-based learning framework for life science that brings today’s most exciting scientific innovations into their classrooms and labs. Educators who complete the introductory training workshops and adopt BioBuilder’s programs with their students can receive advanced training, enabling them to train other educators in the BioBuilder curriculum. This “train the trainers” model has enabled BioBuilder to expand into schools throughout the U.S. and around the world. To date, more than 600 teachers have participated in professional development workshops, leading to an estimated 30,000+ students engaged with BioBuilder content and programs. Workshops are delivered with pre-recorded lectures from a practicing bioengineer and a high school teacher. The online lecture format allows participants to learn from anywhere and at their own pace. Reactions, questions, and feedback are supported through the interactive features of the video platform. In addition, laboratory kits are shipped to teachers at their schools and all workshop participants run two days of lab activities in real time with the BioBuilder instructors. The synchronous laboratory experience helps teachers know that they have everything they'll need to perform the experiments at their schools. It also builds confidence that they can teach the experiment to their students.
