MA State Seal of Biliteracy

Multilingualism is an achievement and an asset to the Commonwealth. The Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy is the Department's only award recognizing students' multilingual skills. It honors graduating students who demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English and at least one additional language, whether those languages were developed at home, at school, or in the community.

The MA State Seal of Biliteracy Guidance establishes the statewide requirements for the program. Participating local educational agencies (LEAs) award the Seal at graduation. Students receive an official designation on their high school transcript, communicating their achievement to colleges and universities, employers, and their communities.
