The charge below is drafted to align with the priorities of the Commissioner:

The Adult Education Advisory Council serves to advise the Commissioner of Education on matters essential to the development and continuous improvement of Public Adult Education in Massachusetts. In pursuit of this charge, the Council will:

  • Focus on enhancing/growing/increasing the visibility of Public Adult Education through strategic social media outreach, support, and access and by uplifting student perspectives. This includes supporting student-led initiatives, such as participating in and amplifying events organized by Student Ambassadors and other adult education student leaders.
  • The Council will continue with its previous charges of:
  • Assessing statewide trends and learners need to ensure that adult education programs are responsive, equitable, and forward-looking, through data-informed processes (LACES, DOL, DESE, DOE,)
  • integrating student voice and choice in all entities
  • Analyze relevant data to inform sound policy and programmatic recommendations.
  • Take note of, examine, and consider legislation, regulations, and program guidelines that impact adult learners and educational providers.
  • Offer timely and relevant recommendations aligned with the DESE/DOE goals
