How shortages in content areas and staff imbalance can help you get a job.

Massachusetts needs teachers in specific subject areas. We are also seeking to diversify our educator workforce relative to the student population across the state. These needs are especially strong in Turnaround Schools. Being well informed on these two issues can help you be a more competitive candidate.

Although there are specific shortage areas, Massachusetts welcomes aMAzing educator candidates in all content areas and from all backgrounds.

Subject area shortages in MA include:

  • Severe Disabilities in Special Education

  • English as a Second Language

  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)

  • Foreign Languages

Educators sought to increase diversity and talent include:

  • Males

  • Latinos

  • African-Americans

  • Asians

  • Licensed Middle and Secondary Educators
