Investigating History

Investigating History

In Investigating History classrooms, students are engaged in asking and answering authentic, interesting questions that drive toward deeper, richer understanding of the past and the present.

Investigating History is a comprehensive, authentic, inquiry-based curriculum that is fully aligned to the 2018 History/Social Science Framework — developed by DESE in collaboration with teachers, history scholars, and organizations across Massachusetts.

Investigating History is a curriculum for grades three through seven, provided at no cost to schools, with opportunities for robust teacher support and professional development for adoption and implementation. Investigating History units for Grades 5, 6, and 7 are now available. Pilot materials for Grades 3 and 4 are available to preview, with revised units coming in Summer 2026. Learn more at: Investigating History for Grades 3 and 4.
