ELAR Document Upload Instructions

If you follow the instructions below and do not see the "Upload Documents" button in step 8, please contact your organization's Directory Administrator for assistance with adding that specific security role. (If necessary, a listing of Directory Administrators, by organization, is available online at Directory Administrators webpage.)

• Make sure the file you are going to attach is saved to your computer, and make a mental note of where you have saved it (e.g. desktop, my documents, etc.).
• Please note the acceptable file formats are .doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt, .pdf, .xls, .xlsx, .gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .tif, .tiff and the file cannot exceed 20MB in size
• Log into ELAR (Or log into the main DESE Security Portal and select "ELAR Welcome Page")
• Under your administrative functions, click on "Administrative Inquiry"
• Type in one of the follow identification numbers: Social Security number, License number, or Massachusetts Education Personnel ID (MEPID)
• Click the "Search" button
• Click on the educator's last name
• Scroll down the Activity Summary Page to find the green button labeled "Upload Documents"
• Click on the "Browse" button
• Locate the file you have saved to your computer, and double click on it (or highlight it and click "open")
• Click the "Upload Document" button
• "Waiver Document" should be the type you assign when it is a job posting or other info pertaining to your waiver request; "Official transcripts" is the appropriate type to assign to transcripts as long as you can see the signature or seal of the registrar on the image.
• Add your short comment, if desired. (Not necessary)
• Click "save"
• Click "Done" or "Upload More Documents"
