Test Design and Development

Bias and Sensitivity Review Committee

The Bias Review Committee, composed of Massachusetts educators, ensures that no questions appearing on the tests may potentially disadvantage particular groups of students taking the test and no questions will likely favor one group of students taking the test over another group of students for non-educationally relevant reasons.

Assessment Development Committee

Assessment Development Committees (ADCs) are composed of Massachusetts public school teachers and curriculum specialists who currently teach or are responsible for instruction in the grade and subject area for which items are being developed. Separate ADCs exist for each test (e.g., grade 5 Mathematics). ADCs for English Language Arts (ELA) also assist in the selection of reading passages upon which ELA items are based.
