Comments Sought on Changes to the District and School Accountability System for 2022

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (Department) is soliciting public comment on the proposed plan for district and school accountability reporting for the 2021-2022 school year. The Department is soliciting public comment to fulfill its obligation of notice and consultation under 603 CMR 2.00: Accountability and Assistance for School Districts and Schools.

In spring 2022, due to the pandemic, the Department requested and received temporary flexibility from certain federal accountability reporting requirements for the 2021-2022 school year. In June, the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education approved an amendment to state accountability regulations, which aligns state and federal accountability reporting requirements and allows the Department to produce some, but not all, of the information associated with annual district and school accountability determinations. The details of the Department's plans for 2022 accountability reporting are described in the document below.

A summary of the accountability system and related public comment will be shared with the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education this summer, and if approved, will be implemented when the Department calculates district and school accountability results in fall 2022.

Comments may be submitted via email to ElementarySecondaryEd.Act@mass.gov until July 15, 2022.
