After School and Out-of-School Time Technical Assistance Resources
The Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care oversees early education and care and after-school services for families.
The Massachusetts Special Commission on After School and Out of School Time was created by the Massachusetts Legislature to "study and recommend how to' define and 'better coordinate, expand, finance and improve accessible, affordable, and quality out-of-school time programming for school age children in all settings in Massachusetts." The Commission published a report, Our Common Wealth: Building a Future for Our Children and Youth, in 2007
Public School District Operated School-Age Child Care operated by a public school, on a regular basis, that provide supervised group care for school-age children should register through this online form with the Department (DESE). A copy of the registration information for school districts , charter schools or collaboratives can be used to prepare information to enter online. Programming offered should be informed by and align with the Quality Standards for Public School Operated School-Age Child Care Programs and be in accordance with local school/district policy and procedure.
