Annual Induction and Mentoring Report

Background

The Annual Induction and Mentoring Report is intended to provide DESE with a broad understanding of the induction and mentoring activities in place to support educators across the Commonwealth. The annual report requirements and components are outlined in 603 CMR 7.12(3).

The goals of the annual report are to:

  1. Encourage district reflection on current induction and mentoring practices so districts may identify strengths and areas for further development;
  2. Provide DESE with data so the agency can identify promising induction and mentoring practices to share across districts and understand areas where the agency can provide additional supports and resources to districts.

For more information, read our Frequently Asked Questions.

Submitting the Annual Report

The Department sends a link to the online reporting form to each district's and collaborative's designated Induction and Mentoring contact, typically on or around June 1st of each year. To update your Induction and Mentoring contact, please contact your local directory administrator.

Induction and Mentoring Reports are typically due on or around August 1st. Reports are required of traditional school districts, Horace Mann charter schools, and educational collaboratives, and are optional for Commonwealth charter schools.

2022 Annual Report

The 2022 Massachusetts Statewide Teacher Induction and Mentoring Report , prepared in partnership with the Region 1 Comprehensive Center, outlines the results of the 2021-22 survey of districts on induction and mentoring programs, including:

  • Mentor selection, assignment, and compensation
  • Program content, operations, and outcomes
  • Additional considerations, including supporting educators of color and educators entering the profession through alternative pathways

DESE's Use of the Data

DESE uses data from the Annual Report to understand the state of induction and mentoring programs in the Commonwealth and to identify opportunities for additional support related to induction and mentoring. In past years, DESE has also aggregated the data from each district and publish a brief annual report to highlight trends and promising practices in induction and mentoring programs across the state.
