FY2023: 21^st CCLC Internship Enhancement Grant

Purpose:

The purpose of this federally funded competitive 21^st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) Enhancement Grant is to provide high school (HS) students interested in the education field with a school year (SY) and/or summer internship program that will enable them to gain valuable experience and provide additional support to K–8 students in current 21^st CCLC schools/sites.

Priorities:

Supporting future educators in developing skills helpful to entering and succeeding in the teaching profession.

Develop future educators by providing high school students interested in the education field with real world experiences.

Creating a planning/outreach team that includes at minimum: 21^st CCLC coordinator, high school representative (guidance counselor, career/vocational ed., internship coordinator, etc.), and other related district/school positions.

Managing the fiscal responsibility of helping student intern's complete necessary paperwork to earn a stipend or wages for their participation.

Competitive priority will be given to districts and schools in chronically underperforming status.

Grant Requirements:

Identify and support an internship coordinator that will be responsible for student intern recruitment, student internship placement, the monitoring of student progress throughout the internship, and professional development delivery to student interns.

Internship Coordinators that do not have previous experience recruiting or supervising interns will be required to participate in the department sponsored virtual training sessions designed to prepare leaders to hire and supervise interns to be held February/March 2023.

Recruit a group of student interns that reflect the background and identities of the students served by the 21^st CCLC grant funds.

Design and provide student interns with ongoing training and support. Coordinators are required to participate in Department sponsored internship training, and networking sessions.

The applicant must commit to participating in an evaluation component to measure the impact of the internship program.

Eligibility:

All current recipients of a fiscal year (FY) 2023 Fund Code (FC) 645 Continuation Grant and/or FC 646 Exemplary Programs grant are eligible to apply.

Funding:

Approximately $750,000 is available

• SY & Summer Applicants — Grantees may apply for up to $60,000 for the Internship Program to work with up to 10 HS interns during the SY and up to 15 during the summer.

• Summer Only Applicants — Grantees may apply for up to $30,000 for the Internship Program to work with up to HS 15 interns during the summer.

Funding is contingent upon availability. All dollar amounts listed are estimated/approximate and are subject to change. If more funding becomes available, it will be distributed under the same guidelines that appear in this RFP document.

Fund Use:

Funds must be used solely to support the priorities of the Internship Grant.

Funds must be used to compensate student interns at a rate that is at least comparable with minimum wage.

Funds may be used to support an internship coordinator.

Supplies should be no more than 10% of the overall budget and must be directly connected to supporting student interns.

Funds allocated under this federally funded grant program may be used only to supplement, not supplant, funds that local educational agencies, schools, and community-based organizations would otherwise expend for this purpose.

Rental of space, cell phones, telephone and utilities, and overhead costs are not allowable expenses under this grant.

Additional Information:

Recipients will be required to complete and submit student data for all programs and services funded by this grant.

Program Expenditures

In constructing the budget, please note that all costs must be reasonable and necessary to implement the program activities. Applicants must complete both a budget and a budget narrative (in the same Excel Workbook) that demonstrates a clear connection to the proposed programming outlined in Part III Required Program Information.

Note: If you plan to use funds to hire contracted providers you must include a detailed budget and narrative for each contractor.
