Resources for Educator Evaluation Implementation in 2021-22

As educators strive to meet students' academic and social-emotional learning needs after two unprecedented school years, the educator evaluation process provides an opportunity to meaningfully support, recognize, and develop practice.

All requirements for meaningful supervision and evaluation remain in place. The following suite of resources and practical tools reflect feedback from educators on how to implement educator evaluation in support of more equitable, culturally responsive schools and classrooms for all.

The 2020-21 Educator Evaluation Implementation Resources remain available upon request at educatordevelopment@mass.gov.

Resources

  • 2021-2022 Focus Indicators
    The Focus Indicators for Teachers and Administrators identify recommended practices for teaching and leading during the 2021-22 school year, around which educators can focus feedback, support, and collaboration.


  • Educator Evaluation Overview for 2021-22
    This customizable presentation provides an overview for Massachusetts school-based educators and evaluators on educator evaluation implementation in 2021-22.

  • Adapted Self-Assessment Tool
    This self-assessment tool can be used by teachers to 1) reflect on their own strengths and areas for growth in key practices for the 2021-22 school year and 2) draft professional practice and student learning goals to guide professional learning and advance equity for students.

  • Creating SMARTIE Goals Tool
    This resource supports educators to develop individual and/or team student learning goals and professional practice goals for the 2021-22 school year, aligned with the Focus Indicators for Teaching.

  • Adapted Student Feedback Surveys
    These student feedback tools are designed to help teachers gather feedback from students on their learning experiences. Aligned with the Focus Indicators for Teaching, they are available for students in Grades K–2, 3–5, and 6–12 and have been translated into five languages.

  • Adapted Staff Feedback Survey
    This staff feedback tool is designed to provide feedback for school-based administrators in the 2021-22 school year, aligned to the six Focus Indicators for Administrators.

  • Collecting Evidence of Teaching and Learning: Implementation Resource
    This resource helps educators and evaluators think about evidence collection as an important piece of ongoing reflection and continuous improvement during a year of collective learning, innovation, and refinement.

  • Quick Reference Guide: Engaging Families through Educator Evaluation
    This QRG provides guidance to educators and evaluators on general principles of family engagement within the educator evaluation process and strategies for integrating family voice into the Model System.
